He served in the Army Air Force during WWII, and again in Korea. For 22 years he was employed by Goodyear Aerospace in Akron, Ohio, where he was also active with Boy Scouts and West Akron Baseball League. In 1972 he moved his family to Lynchburg, where he had joined Babcock and Wilcox Research Center at Mt. Athos. He took an active interest in the Lynchburg Aquatic League and was a member of the Lynchburg Amateur Radio Club. In 1987 he retired from Babcock and Wilcox. In addition to his wife, Kathryn, he is survived by five children, Gregory R. Stafford, Akron, OH, Kathryn R. Stafford and husband Jeffrey Crespi, Huntingtown, MD., Gery R. Stafford and wife, Margaret, Gaithersburg, MD, Marianne S. Ramsey and husband, William, Lynchburg, Michael R.
