War from Vermont. He served as a private in 1776 in the companies of
Capt. Benjamin Hickok and Capt. Abraham Salisbury. In 1777 he served with
the Otter Creek company raised in Clarendon and had been promoted to
Sergeant. The company responded to the raid by the emeny at Pittsford
where prisoners were taken and homes plundered. Following the war, he
moved from Clarendon in 1797 to Deerfield, New York and later to Wilna,

War from Vermont. He served as a private in 1776 in the companies of
Capt. Benjamin Hickok and Capt. Abraham Salisbury. In 1777 he served with
the Otter Creek company raised in Clarendon and had been promoted to
Sergeant. The company responded to the raid by the emeny at Pittsford
where prisoners were taken and homes plundered. Following the war, he
moved from Clarendon in 1797 to Deerfield, New York and later to Wilna,

111720 Services for John R. Stafford Jr., 62, Logansport, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Gundrum Funeral Home.

He died at 7:31 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2008, in Howard Regional Health System, Kokomo.
Born March 24, 1945, in Gallatin, Tenn., he was the son of John R. Sr. and Mildred Perry Stafford. He was married Oct. 23, 1970, in Burlington, to Loretta Montgomery, who preceded in death April 30, 1997.
He retired from Chrysler Corporation and was a member of United Auto Workers Local 685. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served in Vietnam, holding the rank of corporal.
John enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, spending time with his grandchildren and regular phone conversations with his Uncle James. His sense of humor would always bring a smile to your face.

Surviving are daughters, Rachel Baker and husband, Luke, and Julie Johnson and husband, Robert, all of Logansport; sisters, Carolyn Shirar, Kokomo, Sara James and husband, Steve, and Rosie Henry and husband, Duane, all of Logansport; brother, Tim Stafford and wife, Sara, Deer Creek; eight grandchildren, Nicole and husband, Michael Wilson, and Brandon, Amber, Emily, Clinton, Derik, Heather and Cody; and three great-grandchildren, Alijah, Cameron and Landon.
