116228 The following biograph has some contrary information.

Birth: May 3, 1831
Death: May 11, 1906
Samuel Stafford, born in TN, lived in both Andrew and Holt County MO. Folklore says that he was well-known in the community and was involved in politics. He moved with his parents from Tennessee to Iowa. At the age of sixteen he crossed the plains to the state of Oregon with William Kunkel of New Point, Mo., and Wash and Tom Crowley of Andrew Co., Mo. He was elected Captain of Co C of the first Regiment of Oregon Mounted Volunteers and landed in Puerto Rico in Feb. of 1856, later coming to Cass Co., Nebr., where he was appointed Captain of the company of State Militia during the Indian uprising. He held his commission under Governor Alvin Sanders. He spent some years freighting with oxen teams from Rock Bluff, Nebr. to Denver, Colo., came from Nebraska to Fillmore, Mo., in 1864, and carried Mail from Savannah, Mo., to Clearmont, Ia. for several years. He later carried mail from Fillmore, Mo., to Savannah, Mo., and at the time of his death, he had lived in Fillmore, Mo. for forty-two years and was a druggist there. He died at Richville, MO at the home of his son, J. S. Stafford. His father was Maj. Robert William Stafford (b: ABT 1801 in NC/VA) and his mother was Elizabeth Davison who was reported to be the first woman to die in the new county of Page in Iowa on November 9, 1844, and was buried in the first graveyard. Samuel married three times and was the father of 14 children. His first marriage was to Nancy Hester Randell (b: ABT 1842 in Missouri) in 1857 in Nebraska. The two had several children born in Rock Bluff, Cass County Nebraska, including: Francisco Hal Stafford b: 26 FEB 1859; Albert D. Stafford b: 20 MAY 1860; Zelma Ida Stafford b: 28 JUL 1862; Mary Blanche Stafford b: 30 JUN 1865; and Frances Stafford b: ABT 1866 in Missouri. Nancy died of consumption in 1869 and Samuel married. Cordelia Sparks (b: 1849 in Kentucky) on 11 APR 1869. The two had several children in Missouri. William Marion Stafford b: JAN 1870; Mahlon Stafford b: 1872; Emma Jane Stafford b: 1873; Elsie Stafford b: 1876; John S. Stafford b: 1877; and an unnamed baby Stafford b: MAY 1879. This last childbirth killed Cordelia on May 30, 1879. I don't know if the baby surived or not, but her cause of death is listed as "peritoneal inflammation or gangrene." She was only about 30 years old.

In June, 1880, he married Mary Elizabeth Calvert (b: OCT 1847 in Kentucky) in Andrew Co. The two had two children:
Georgia Stafford b: JAN 1883 and Lessie Stafford b: APR 1886 in Missouri.

Samuel is buried in Holt County Missouri. I'm not sure which cemetery, but will update this page after I research his history further.
