Just had word from Ina Willington (a shirt tail relative in Texas and a good researcher who sites sources) that the W. D. Stafford that we have been looking for may really be Marcus Stafford. TO QUOTE INA: “I checked both of the sites you mentioned, and that is your family. If you clicked on the daughter Emmeline, you will see she had a son named Marcus Andrew. Also Dicey and husband had a child named Marcus, so we know that name was passed down. I have a copy of the 1850 census in Missouri, and they are mistaking M. D. Stafford for W. D. Stafford. If you check the other W's and M's written by the enumerator you can see them more clearly. In the 1840 census of Scott Co. Ar., that part of the county became part of Logan Co., which is only about 20 miles from Havana (Riley Twp.) and Waveland and they are in Yell Co. Where they lived in Driggs, is Logan Co, and all of these little towns are just a little ways from Booneville, Logan Co. Booneville, is where I was born-Mama was born in Chismville,Logan, Ar. and Dad was born in Waveland. I've been going there for the last several years for a Ross reunion on my Dad's side. So, in the 1840 census of Scott Co, Ar. It really looks like Marcus Stafford is your M. D. Stafford. All of the children ages fit perfectly.
