VIVIAN S. MACDONALD

Vivian S. MacDonald, 76, formerly of Keywood Manor in Alfred, died Saturday at the Kennebunk Nursing Center after a long illness.

She was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., a daughter of Cyrus and Susan Stephens Stafford. She attended St. Johnsbury, Vt., schools.

She married Randall A. MacDonald on Aug. 23, 1940, in St. Johnsbury, Vt., and then moved to Bennington, Vt., in 1954. They retired to Alfred in 1985.

Mrs. MacDonald had been employed as a seamstress for many years in the Bennington area. She worked for 10 years at County National Bank and for several years at Chittendon Bank, both in Bennington. She also worked as a bookkeeper for a Bennington medical practice.

She was a member of the Methodist Church. She and her husband enjoyed square dancing and were active members of the Catamount Gadabouts Square Dance Club in Bennington. She enjoyed oil painting, knitting and jewelry making.

She is survived by her husband, Randall A. MacDonald of Kennebunk; two sons, Bruce MacDonald of New Bedford, Mass., and Dale MacDonald of Shaftsbury, Vt.; two daughters, Janet MacDonald of Dorchester, Mass., and Judith M. Petty of Biddeford;
a brother, Dexter Stafford of Littleton, N.H.; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Visiting hours will be from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Burial will be in St. Laurel Hill Cemetery.

She was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., a daughter of Cyrus and Susan Stephens Stafford. She attended St. Johnsbury, Vt., schools.

She married Randall A. MacDonald on Aug. 23, 1940, in St. Johnsbury, Vt., and then moved to Bennington, Vt., in 1954. They retired to Alfred in 1985.

Mrs. MacDonald had been employed as a seamstress for many years in the Bennington area. She worked for 10 years at County National Bank and for several years at Chittendon Bank, both in Bennington. She also worked as a bookkeeper for a Bennington medical practice.

She was a member of the Methodist Church. She and her husband enjoyed square dancing and were active members of the Catamount Gadabouts Square Dance Club in Bennington. She enjoyed oil painting, knitting and jewelry making.

She is survived by her husband, Randall A. MacDonald of Kennebunk; two sons, Bruce MacDonald of New Bedford, Mass., and Dale MacDonald of Shaftsbury, Vt.; two daughters, Janet MacDonald of Dorchester, Mass., and Judith M. Petty of Biddeford;
a brother, Dexter Stafford of Littleton, N.H.; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Visiting hours will be from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Burial will be in St. Laurel Hill Cemetery.
