Granite Falls – Faye Irene Simmons Stafford, 94, of Granite Falls, NC went home to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Caldwell County Hospice and Palliative Care in Hudson. 
She was born February 7, 1920, daughter of the late Dock York and Molly Ila Austin Simmons.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Walter Stafford; one son, Larry Stafford; three brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Kirby and husband Dean of Granite Falls; granddaughter, Marti Lingerfelt and husband Harv of Granite Falls; great-grandson, Garner”Pee Wee” Lingerfelt; great-granddaughter, Maren Grace Lingerfelt; one sister, Doris Simmons McLean of Monroe.

Aulta Stafford Covey
(March 21, 1928 - September 25, 2007)

AULTA STAFFORD COVEY, former resident of the Warren Community, resident of Memphis and wife of the late Nolan W. Covey, died at 12:15 P.M. Tuesday, September 25, 2007, at the St. Francis Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for 9 days. She was 79 years of age and died following a five week illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Covey were conducted at 11 A.M. Friday, September 28th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Larry Dollar, United Methodist Minister of Walnut, MS, officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home—West Chapel.

Mrs. Covey was born March 21, 1928, in the Warren Community of Fayette County, the daughter of the late Minnie Lewis Stafford and the late Rev. Robert W. Stafford who served as a Methodist minister in Fayette County before his retirement. She was educated in the public schools of Fayette County and was a graduate of the Fayette County High School in Somerville.

Mrs. Covey was married in 1949 to Nolan W. Covey, a dairy farmer in the Brunswick area and United States veteran, who preceded her in death on January 31, 1963. As a young person she was employed as a telephone operator in Somerville before moving to the Brunswick Community where she owned and operated a beauty shop before her retirement 15 years ago. Mrs. Covey was a longtime devoted member of the Brunswick Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she participated in numerous activities and served as an Elder.

She experienced polio at an early age and her determination and strength were appreciated by all who knew her during this difficult time. She remained independent throughout her years and enjoyed life to the fullest despite her condition. She was an inspiration to others and will be loved and missed by all who knew her.

Mrs. Covey is survived by two sons, Nolan Covey, Jr. (Elke) of Spokane, WA and Edward K. Covey (Jenny) of Bartlett; three sisters, Nova Lynn Steward of Greenfield, TN, Shirley King of Selmer, TN and Mildred Roberts of Harrison, AR; two brothers, L.Z. Stafford of Lake Cormorant, MS and Lloyd T. Stafford of Bolivar, TN; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Lou Stafford, Clara Vaughn and Nina Marie Stafford and three brothers, James R. Stafford, Carthel Stafford and Leron Stafford.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Steve Stafford, Rodney Stafford, Wayne Steward, Larry Stafford, Charles Covey and John Covey.

Fayette County - AULTA STAFFORD COVEY, 79, of Memphis, formerly of Brunswick Community, native Fayette Countian, and wife of the late Nolan W. Covey died September 25, 2007. Services at 11 a.m., Friday at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with interment in the Somerville City Cemetery. A visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Thursday at Peebles West Chapel. A retired beauty shop operator and member of Brunswick Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Covey is survived by two sons, Nolan Covey, Jr. (Elke) of Spokane, WA and Edward K. Covey (Jenny) of Bartlett; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; sister of Nova Lynn Steward of Greenfield, TN, Shirley King of Selmer, TN, Mildred Roberts of Harrison, AR, L.Z. Aulta Stafford Covey

AULTA STAFFORD COVEY, former resident of the Warren Community, resident of Memphis and wife of the late Nolan W. Covey, died at 12:15 P.M. Tuesday, September 25, 2007, at the St. Francis Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for 9 days. She was 79 years of age and died following a five week illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Covey were conducted at 11 A.M. Friday, September 28th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Larry Dollar, United Methodist Minister of Walnut, MS, officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home—West Chapel.

Mrs. Covey was born March 21, 1928, in the Warren Community of Fayette County, the daughter of the late Minnie Lewis Stafford and the late Rev. Robert W. Stafford who served as a Methodist minister in Fayette County before his retirement. She was educated in the public schools of Fayette County and was a graduate of the Fayette County High School in Somerville.

Mrs. Covey was married in 1949 to Nolan W. Covey, a dairy farmer in the Brunswick area and United States veteran, who preceded her in death on January 31, 1963. As a young person she was employed as a telephone operator in Somerville before moving to the Brunswick Community where she owned and operated a beauty shop before her retirement 15 years ago. Mrs. Covey was a longtime devoted member of the Brunswick Cumberland Presbyterian Church where she participated in numerous activities and served as an Elder.

She experienced polio at an early age and her determination and strength were appreciated by all who knew her during this difficult time. She remained independent throughout her years and enjoyed life to the fullest despite her condition. She was an inspiration to others and will be loved and missed by all who knew her.

Mrs. Covey is survived by two sons, Nolan Covey, Jr. (Elke) of Spokane, WA and Edward K. Covey (Jenny) of Bartlett; three sisters, Nova Lynn Steward of Greenfield, TN, Shirley King of Selmer, TN and Mildred Roberts of Harrison, AR; two brothers, L.Z. Stafford of Lake Cormorant, MS and Lloyd T. Stafford of Bolivar, TN; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Lou Stafford, Clara Vaughn and Nina Marie Stafford and three brothers, James R. Stafford, Carthel Stafford and Leron Stafford.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Steve Stafford, Rodney Stafford, Wayne Steward, Larry Stafford, Charles Covey and John Covey.
