20700 | Gladys Marian Stout Stafford was delivered into the arms of the Lord on the morning of Saturday, May 16. Capricious, reverent, and diligent to her last days, she was a graduate of Eastern High School (Middletown, Ky.), received her RN diploma from The Norton School of Nursing in Louisville, Ky., and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Memphis College of Art. In her years as an RN, she provided comfort to her patients at Oak Ridge Mental Health Center, and infuriated numerous physicians with her perceptive nursing skills at Norton's Children's Hospital. As an art instructor, she gracefully brought a love of color, texture, and light into thousands of young hands through the Saturday School program of the Memphis College of Art, and Saint Mary's Girl's School. As an artist, her paintings were displayed in galleries across western Tennessee through Jackson, Miss. She loved the artistic possibilities of landscaping and was a member of the Overton Park Garden Club. She adored the written word and was a member of the Memphis chapter of American Pen Women. Marian hosted legendary Kentucky Derby parties and thrived in the diverse Memphis culture. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and was a long-serving member of St. Mary's Episcopal Cathedral in Memphis, Tenn., and later often worshiped at St. Stephen's Episcopal in Oak Ridge, Tenn. She was a lover of animals, especially her cats, dogs, and the wild birds that visited her yards in Memphis, and Oak Ridge. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, David Todd; and her loving daughter, Amy Stafford Malik; and her grandchildren, Tudor David and Holly Renee Malik. She was preceded into her heavenly afterlife by her parents, Walter and Gladys Stout; her brother, Walter; and sister, Jean; as well as her first daughter, Anne. Memorial service will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 22, with internment at St. Stephen's Memorial Garden and reception to follow. The family will receive visitors at St. Stephen's beginning at 1 p.m. prior to the services. | STOUT, Gladys Marian (I153539)
