Laura prepared for college in the National Normal School of Lebanon, Ohio and entered Oberlin in 1875 as a second year student. After graduating from Oberlin in 1878, Laura taught for 2 years in Wakeman, Ohio. Laura writes that the influence of Oberlin on her life was: " being obliged to go to church every Sunday formed a habit never forgotten."
Laura and Burnett were married on June 6, 1880, in Wakeman, Ohio, which is near Oberlin. (one notes says married in Piqua, Ohio) He was of the Theological graduating class of 1880.
