Vincent H. Stafford, 86, furniture business owner

Vincent Hughes Stafford, retired owner and president of Stafford Brothers Furniture Corp., died of cancer Saturday at his Ellicott City home. He was 86. Born in Baltimore and raised in Catonsville, he attended St. Mark's Parochial School and graduated in 1937 from Mount St. Joseph High School. That year, he became a salesman in the business at 1700 W. Pratt St. that had been founded by his father in 1900. After his father's death in 1950, Mr. Stafford took over the business with his two brothers, James Stafford and Francis E. Stafford.

Vincent Hughes Stafford
Vincent Hughes Stafford of Ellicott City, a former resident of Catonsville, died of cancer June 19. He was 86.
Mr. Stafford, the son of the late Francis J. and Ella Bailey Stafford, was born in Baltimore in 1918. He was raised in Catonsville, where he attended St. Mark's Parochial School.
Upon graduating from Mount St. Joseph High School in Baltimore, he joined his family's furniture business, which his father originally founded in 1900.
He eventually became the owner and president of Stafford Brothers Furniture Corporation.
In 1998, Mr. Stafford retired, through he enjoyed keeping in touch and visiting with former customers in Baltimore, Annapolis and Bowie, according to family members.
He was an usher at Church of the Resurrection in Ellicott City, where he enjoyed greeting his fellow parishioners, family members said.
Surviving are his children and their spouses, Mark S. and Peggy B. Stafford of Ellicott City, Elizabeth S. Cone of Linthicum, and Ann S. and Marc L. Ebersberger Sr. of Ellicott City; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Mr. Stafford was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth S. Stafford; and infant son, Vincent H. Stafford Jr.
Services were June 23 at Church of the Resurrection in Ellicott City. Officiating were Mr. Stafford's nephew, J. Francis Cardinal Stafford of the Apostolic Penitentiary in Rome, the Rev. W. Francis Malooly, the Auxiliary Bishop of Baltimore and Monsignor James O. McGovern of Church of the Resurrection.
Interment was in St. John's Cemetery in Ellicott City.
