  Thomas was born at What Cheer Iowa went into the coal mines at the age of 13 and worked for 50 years. Tom worked his way up the ladder to assistant Foreman for 3 years at Buxton # 18,from there to Everest as a foreman then to Pershing as foreman,later as Superintended at mine # 14.Was a board member of the United Mine Workers Union .After retirement he served as a member of the Iowa State Examining Board until his death. Tom had a farm in his later years,east of Pershing,where enjoyed his roses and gardening,along with his grand children.Many family gatherings where held at Grand Dads,some on a weekly basis.
