He received his undergraduate education at Sharon Springs, Kansas, graduating in 1933. He attended Ft. Hays State College and the University of Kansas where he received his Bachelor of Law degree in 1939. Following graduation from college he practiced law in Dodge City prior to the outbreak of World War II. He joined the navy in February 1942 and became a naval aviator eventually serving on the USS Pensacola, a cruiser in the Pacific Fleet. He served a total of 3 years and 9 months in the navy.
He returned to Dodge City and became a partner with Carl Van Riper, attorney, until Mr. Van Riper's death in 1950. Eventually the law firm of Williams, Larson, Voss & Strobelwas established. At his death the firm was known as Williams, Strobel, Malone & Ralph with Ron Mason as a former partner. Jim retired in 1995 after practicing law for nearly 53 years.

James Alfred "Jim" Williams, 88, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, in Dodge City.
He was born July 15, 1915, to Lewis James and Linnie Blanche (Stafford) Williams in Liberty, Mo. He married Beatrice Jacquart in Dodge City Dec. 26, 1968. She preceded him in death Nov. 28, 1990.
He received his undergraduate education at Sharon Springs, graduating in 1933. He attended Ft. Hays State College and the University of Kansas where he received his bachelor of Law degree in 1939. Following graduation from college, he practiced law for three years in Dodge City prior to the outbreak on World War II. He joined the navy in February of 1942 and served as a naval aviator for two years on the U.S. Pensacola, a cruiser in the Pacific.
He returned to Dodge City and became a partner with Carl Van Riper. After Van Riper's death, he started the law firm of Williams, Larson, Voss, and Strobel. He retired from law practice after nearly 53 years in 1995.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Dodge City. He was church elder. He was a member of Gideons International, Board Member of the Santa Fe Trail Council Boy Scouts of America and received the Silver Beaver Award. He was also a member of the Supreme Court of Kansas, Southwest Kansas Bar Assn., Rotary and recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award and a member of the Dodge City Round-Up.
Survivors include one sister, Betty Hess and husband, Dean, Winfield; four nieces Darle Henry, Dodge City, Arlyce Steele and husband, Larry, Tribune, Diana Hess Duncan and husband, Craig Duncan, Winfield, Karen Hess, Salem, Mass.; one nephew Terry Hess, Auburn, Wash; seven grandnieces and seven grandnephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lewis Merlin, Robert Williams; one sister, Bernice Williams; one nephew, Darrell Williams.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church, Dodge City, with Revs. Gerald C. Rendel, Larry Williams, and Jeff Hiers presiding. Burial will take place at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City. Military graveside rites will be by Ft. Riley 596th Signal Corps.
Friends may visit from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. until noon Monday.
