- John Reeves Jones Daniel graduated from the University of North Carolina
in 1821, he studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1823. After
beginning his law pracctive in Halifax, he became a member of the North
Carolna House of Commons in which he served from 1832 to 1834. In that
latter year he was elected Attorney General for North Carolina. He next
served as a Democrat from North Carolina to the U.S. House of
Representatives, serving from the 27th to the 32nd Congresses from 1841 to
1853. In 1860 he settled near Shreveport, LA where he continued his law
practice as well as becoming a planter. He and Martha E. Stith had
several children.
