Laura Emer McKinney was the daughter of Isaac Newton McKinney and Amanda Melissa Jones (both buried at the Girard Cemetery, Girard, Crawford Co., KS); she had the following siblings: Joseph Wilson, Lewis Jackson, Lillie Jane, Addie Lucinda, William Edgar, Kate Belle, Fred, and Jimmy McKinney.
She married on 21 Sep 1898 in Christian Co., MO, Aminda Belchazzar Nelson; they had the following children:; Violet Pansy (Nelson) Hull, Robert Newton Nelson, Kate Florence (Nelson) Davis, Amy Inez (Nelson) Mitchell, Roger Fred Nelson, Ortha Mildred (Nelson) Shortt McHaffie, Dorothy Marie (Nelson) Davis, Opal Nellie (Nelson) Hunt.
My grandmother told me so many things about you. She told me about the day you received word from a rider who came by the home with a message for you, telling that you mother Amanda had passed away. You were unable to go to the funeral, as you had twin infants to care for at the time. She also told me about your brother "Uncle Bill" visiting the family all the way from New Mexico. She told me how you would sing songs while doing laundry like the older version of "streets of Laredo". She told me many other things. Some very sad, and too heartbreaking to write here. I'm so sorry you suffered as you did. I'm comforted in knowing your trials are over, may you rest in sweet peace.
