The Following is from the Pavey Books/Manuscripts:
(Martha S. Link Pavey) By her first marriage, she had a son , John Link. On the evening of May 3, 1879, just after dark, John passed the homestead of Samuel Pavey on his way back from Leesburg. All the household had retired except Mrs . Pavey (Martha), who was waiting to speak to her son as he passed the house. Just after he had passed the house, she spoke or called to him and he stopped and she went out in to the road. Bad blood existed between John Link and Leroy Taylor Pavey (Samuel son by his first marriage). When Leroy heard her stop John, he sprang out of bed and ran down the stairs. This aroused his father, Samuel, who quickly followed more intent upon preventing a quarrel than engaging in a difficulty himself. As Leroy ran out of the gate into the road, uttering imprecations against John, he picked up a club. Close behind him came Samuel. John, claims that he believed he was about to be set upon by both at once, drew a revolver and sent one shot each at the approaching men. Each shot pierced the heart, and both men fell dead at his feet. The wife and mother witnessed this awful tragedy and fled into the house. John was arrested and tried for murder but was acquitted upon the grounds of self-defense. Samuel and Leroy are both buried at Pleasant Hill.
