Gave his nearest relative as Mrs. Ellen Compton of South Whitley, Ind iana. CENSUS 1920 MO, St. Louis County, St. Louis, page : Lyman L. Compton, lodger, s ingle, cattle buyer. this is definitely him! 1930 CA Los Angeles County, Los Angeles: Lyman L. & Florence Compton The 1930 Census and the California Death Index show Lyman as having be en born in 1887/8 instead of 1880, however, the CDI birthdate 09 May 18 87 is a match to the birthdate he gave on his draft registration--09 May 1 880. I would assume this is him. I wouldlove to talk to someone who might have known Lyman well. From re ading the newspaper articles about him, I imagine him to be a real charact er! It might be part of this "character" that made him fudge his age a bi t...if his mother-in-law had an objection to her daughter marrying an old er man, perhaps they thought it better to tell her he was only 9 years old er than Florence insteadof 17!
