- Descendant of James Rix, Revolutionary War Patriot.
George relocated with his brother William, from Royalton, Windsor, Vermont to Mobile, Alabama.
George opened a wholesale grocery business, later with his brother went into the banking business, Rix, Kendall & Co. managing the business in Sumpterville, Alabama.
William and George were ardent unionists found themselves trapped in Alabama at the outbreak of the Civil war.
William and his wife Katherine Kendall returned to Royalton, Vermont.
George and his wife Rebecca H. Dial, including Alice Montgomery, relocated to Keokuk, Iowa and George founded, a banking business, Rix, Hale and Company.
Later he partnered with Frederick McKee Stafford, Stafford & Rix Company, a wholesale merchant iron business. (His son-in-law).
