- After attending the primary schools of Hardin County Kentucky and
graduating from college with an A.I.A. degree, Howard Armistead Churchill
established the architectural firm of Churchill and Gillig in Lexington,
Fayette County, Kentucky. With his assocciate John Robert Gillig he
designed Lexington's Memorial Colosseum, the Shriner's Children's
Hospital, and Mitchell Fine Arts Building on the campus of Transylvania
University. When John Roberty Gillig removed to Cynthianna, Kentucky
before 1930, Howard Armistead Churchill established teh frim of H. A.
Churchill & Associates, adn maintained such until he retired in 1945.
Howard Armistead Churchill was a veteran of both World Wars, haveing
served with the U. S. Marines in World War I and as a Captain with the
Corp of Engineers during World War II. He was also a member of the First
Church of Christ and the American Institute of Architects.
