CENSUS

1910 MD Allegany County, Cumberland, page 16: George & Ella Hager
Martha told the 1900 census she had been married for 4 years (1896) and h
ad given birth to one child who was living, but the only child in the hous
ehold is an eight year old daughter, Bessie E., born Sept 1891. Mart
ha is old enough to have a child this old, but not married to George Hag
er long enough for this to be their child together. Possibility...Geor
ge Hager was Martha's second husband? Bessie is George's daughter fr
om a previous marriage? But then why would the obituary call Bessieher d
aughter?
Martha told the 1910 census she had been married for 18 years(1892) and h
ad given birth to one child who was living. There are two children in t
he household now--daughter Bessie E., age 20, and stepdaughter Redda,a
ge 9. This would match with the obituary information, but still fai
ls toexplain Bessie's age in relation to the number of years George and M
artha were married.
George Hager's household for 1920 shows no children at home.
