- BIRTH
Rita Kay Stafford Fawcett of Lake Alfred, Florida, gives his full name as John Fletcher Stafford, birthdate 07 July 1786. LIkely born in Hampshire county, Virginia.
MARRIAGE
from "MARYLAND MARRIAGES 1801-1820":
Stafford, John to Hannah Cresap, 15 Oct 1809 (03 AL-614);
LDS IGI files give his wife, marriage on the same date, as Hannah Cresap.
Another record, probably a mistake, shows the same marriage, only with the bride as Mary Sigler. However, it makes sense that John wold marry a Cresap. A Hannah Cresap, a much older woman and a widow, was living in Allegany County, Maryland in 1810. This could be a mother in law.
Research at ancestry.com shows that Mary Polly Sigler married Joseph Ruckner on 14 Oct 1809 in Allegany County, Maryland. Probably some transcriber at some point in time mismatched John Stafford and Mary Sigler.
