Emil Cordell Lunvall's Obituary
Emil Cordell Lundvall, son of a Lutheran Pastor, Nelson Lundvall and his wife, was born in Stockholm, Sweden on November 7, 1873. When Emil was four they came to the US and settled near Holdrege, Nebraska. Twelve years later, in 1889 they moved to the Hale area and homesteaded. Emil Lundvall spent most of the next 48 years in southern Yuma County, mostly as a gardener. He became well known for his watermelon Sundays when during the season when he gave free melons to all who came. On Februray 20, 1911 he married Flora Stafford. The had six children, five survive. In 1937 he moved to Denver where he remained until his death May 8, 1956, which occurred after seven weeks of illness. He was 83 years, 6 months and one day of age. When living In Denver, he attended St. Pauls Lutheran Church. One son, Archie preceded him in 1952. Surviving children are Mrs. Ethel Weaver of Wray, Mrs. Thelma Williams of Grant City, Missouri, Mrs. Violet Knapp, Mrs. Lillian Lengel and Virgil of Burlington; one sister, Hilda Johnson of Denver; two brothers; Oscar of Denver and Rudolph of Greeley; eight grandchildren and four great grand-children. Services were held at First St. Pauls Lutheran Church of Burlington Friday. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery (Burlington).
