  Mary Preston Added by dresslerus on 31 Jan 2009 Mary Preston of Fox Lake Wisconsin marries Edward in 1889. We find her in 1880 about 9 year’s earlier in Wisconsin. She is working as a house servant, maid, for the Shepherds who own a boarding house and a lumber yard in Albion Wisconsin. The census says she is 18 but I think she is actually 16 or 17. She is separated from the boarders on the list by Grandma so she is part of the household. With many young men living there and a constant turn over of men this is probably where she meets her future husband Edward and how she will wind up in North Dakota. The 1900 census shows Edward L and Mary P in North Dakota with 15 year old Seymour and 4 year old Donnibel, 2 year old Edward L, and one month old Phillip. They have been married for eleven years and Mary has born 4 children and 3 are still alive. On November 2, 1889, President Benjamin Harrison approved the admission of North Dakota into the Union as a State. We lose them in 1910 but find them again in Oregon in 1920. Seymour is absent so he has stayed behind with the farm. We know he is still in N Dakota in 1917 and living alone and now crippled. They probably would have brought him with them when they went to Oregon had he been crippled before they left. They are living in Sheridan Oregon. Edward E at the age of 69 is a farm laborer and Edward L is away at College. Mary is the census taker. Mary will die in 4 years at the age of 59. We don’t know why however and Edward E will live on moving in with Dorothy’s new family at the age of 79.
