Marjorie E. Evans, 95, of New England passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the St. Luke's Home in Dickinson, ND.
Funeral Services for Marjorie will be on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Pierce Congregational Church, rural Scranton. Pastor Mary Peterson will officiate with burial to follow in the Pierce Congregational Church Cemetery. There will be a Family and Friends Service for Marjorie on Monday, February 3, 2014 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Krebsbach and Kulseth Funeral Home Chapel.
Marjorie E. Evans, 95, New England,ND passed away at St Lukes Nursing Home on Wednesday, January 29th, with her family at her side. Marjorie Eileen Stafford was born October 25, 1918 to Elmer and Frieda Stafford (Wegner) at the family homestead in Slope County. Marjorie was the eldest of six girls and two boys born to the family. Marjorie attended school through the eighth grade in Hume School. She then stayed home for three years to help on the farm. In 1935 Marjorie started high school in New England and graduated in 1939. After graduation she taught school in Moord Township for one year. She joined her sisters in Spokane for four months in 1940 where she had a job. She returned to North Dakota and again taught school in Hettinger County for one year. On November 4, 1945 she married Charles Evans. She and Charles spent their honeymoon touring the west coast. They lived on the Cooledge farm until 1949. They then purchased and moved to their present farm. It is here that they raised their family. They had four children, Donley, Dianne, Duane and Leslie. Marjorie enjoyed her farm life and loved to garden, sew, bake, read, fish, camp and raising her family. Family was the most important thing in her life. She was a loving wife and mother. She absolutely loved all the children and always had time to include them in her pie making project, gardening or whatever she was working on at the time. The family spent many enjoyable weekends camping and fishing. The family traveled to Wisconsin to see Chuck's relatives quite often which was always a fun time for the family visiting the many nephews, nieces and cousins that lived throughout the area. Several trips were taken to Yellowstone Park and the Black Hills area. Marjorie was a member of the Pierce Church where she taught Sunday school for several years. She also served on the Pierce Women's Fellowship and was a member of the Cedar Beavers Homemakers. Her daughter was active in 4-H and Marjorie spent many hours helping her daughter with canning and sewing projects. In later years Charles and Marjorie started going to Arizona with several couples from the area. Charles and Marjorie were married almost 40 years at the time of his death. After Charles' death Marjorie traveled with a friend to Hawaii. Later she traveled to New York, Alaska, California, and Oregon to visit children and family. Don and his family included her in many of their camping trips and excursions around the area. In 2006 Marjorie moved to the Evergreen Assisted Living in Dickinson where she enjoyed the many activities they involved her in. Several years later she had to move to St. Lukes Nursing home, spending almost 3 years there. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, her parents, brothers Bud and Lawrence, sisters June, Arlene, and Elgene. She is survived by her children: Donley (Roxanne) Evans, Scranton; Dianne (Glenn) Ford, Medford, OR; Duane (Deb) Evans, Pierre, SD; Leslie (Judy) Evans, Dickinson; 11 Grandchildren, 12 Great Grandchildren, two sisters, Glorianne TenBraak, Rapid City, SD; Marion Hartman, Sioux Falls, SD.
