GAINESBORO -- Funeral services for Samuel Hammock, 76, of Gainesboro, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, from the chapel of Anderson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Young Cemetery in the Shiloh Community of Jackson County.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. today, Monday, March 18; and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday, March 19, at the funeral home.
Mr. Hammock died on Saturday, March 16, 2002, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
He was born on June 14, 1925, in Jackson County to the late Ridley D. (R.D.) and Nevada Haney Hammock. He was a retired employee of the Tennessee Dept. of Forestry and a retired farmer. Mr. Hammock was a member of the Free State Church of Christ in Jackson County and a resident of the Free State Community of Jackson County. He was married to the former Brinie Jewel Stafford, who survives.
In addition to his wife of Gainesboro, his family includes a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Eddie Scott of Gainesboro; two sisters, Addie B. Haney of Cookeville, and Sarah Meadows of California; two grandchildren, Chad Scott and Jennifer Smith, both of Gainesboro; and a great-grandchild, Shawn Michael Smith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Earl Hammock; six brothers, Herman, George, Cordell, P.J., William Lee and John Hammock; and four sisters, Avo Thomas, Lou Crabtree, Lola C. Hammock and Dee Meadows.
Bro. Randy Bybee will officiate at the services.
