Christian County Republican - Obituary
Leota Alfonso Shipman was born at Sparta, Missouri, March 26, 1890 and departed this life at Modesto, California at the age of 49 years, 4 months and 15 days.
He spent his entire life in Christian County, MO, until three years ago when he and his family moved to California to make their home.
He was married to Maude R. Croutch in 1912. At the age of 20 he was converted and became a member of the Baptist church at Sparta, MO.
Tobe, as his many friends called him, was a good neighbor and a jolly, good natured man who was devoted to his family.
Surviving are his wife and one son, James Abe of the home, another son Anthony of Ceres, California, a daughter, Mrs. Ruby Grey of Gustine, California, his mother, Mrs. S.F. Shipman of Sparta, MO, a sister Mrs. Bessie Hampton of Livingston, California, and a sister Mrs. Glessie Fowler of Sparta, MO.
Besides these he leaves a grandmother, Mrs. Frances Nelson of Ava, MO, five grandchildren and several aunts and uncles.
His father and two brothers preceded him in death.
A host of other relatives and friends are left to mourn his departure. Our great loss is his eternal gain. Funeral services were conducted Thursday, August 17, 2:30 pm in the Linden chapel by Rev. Roy Shipman with burial in the Linden cemetery under the direction of T.B. Chaffin of Ozark.
