Dillard R. Wright, 84, of Springfield, was born October 26, 1923, in Douglas County, to Archie and Mary (Johnson) Wright.
He passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2008, in Cox South, after a long illness.
He married the love of his life Betty Lou Wiles on April 20, 1946, and to this union, three children were born. Dillard was a decorated World War II veteran, and a 35 year employee of CU's Water Department. During that time, he was also a private trash hauler for 20 years, working sunup to sundown to provide for his family. After retirement, he and Betty enjoyed many happy years at Table Rock Lake with their beloved pets.
Dillard was preceded in death by his parents, and 12 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Betty; and his children and their spouses, Charlotte and Jim Tracy of Strafford, Gary and Kathy Wright, Randy and Julie Wright, all of Springfield; six grandchildren, Glen "Rusty" Tracy and his wife, Michelle, Tammy Campbell and her husband, Bryan, Melanie Meyer and her husband, James, Nick Wright, Tyler Wright, and Jordan Wright; four great-grandchildren, Braden and Bryce Campbell, Coral Tracy, and Chandler Meyer; a special nephew, Duke Short, and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, at 10 a.m. in the Klingner-Cope Family Funeral Home at White Chapel.
Burial with full military honors will follow at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Rest in peace, Dad. We will love you and miss you forever. . . .
