Betty Lou Kells - Obituary
Funeral for Betty Lou Kells, 72, will be 2 p.m. Friday at Church of the Nazarene, Garden City, with the Rev. Craig Coulter officiating.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Garden City.
Mrs. Kells died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.
She was born Nov. 5, 1928, at Ava, Mo., the daughter of Sam and Dorothy (Nelson) Davis.
She grew up and attended schools in Ava. Shortly after graduating from Ava High School, she moved to Garden City and attended Garden City Community College. During World War II, she worked as a telephone operator.
On March 14, 1948, she married Clifford D. Kells at Garden City. They owned and operated a porcelain business and a moving business. She also worked for Lee Richardson Zoo and raised several zoo animals, and also managed the Big Pool here for two years.
Mrs. Kells attended Church of the Nazarene where she was involved in various church activities, and had taught children's church at Cornerstone Church for many years. She enjoyed children, crafts, crocheting, knitting and writing poems.
Her husband died Nov. 17, 1987. She was also preceded in death by her father; and a brother, Gary Davis.
Survivors include a son, Larry D. Kells, Liberal; two daughters, Cheryl Wears and Vickie Heeke, both of Garden City; her mother, Garden City; a brother, Jerry Davis, Timmonsville, S.C.; a sister, Laura Krantz, Brighton, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
