Merlin E. Johnson, 91, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2007, in a local hospital.
He was a member of Washington Avenue Baptist Church.
He was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Davenport Johnson; parents, Ernest and Mary Bullington Johnson; brothers: Elvis Johnson, Elzie Johnson, Albert Johnson and Earl Johnson; and sister, Emma Overton.
He is survived by his children: Ruth Watts of Tellico Plains; Ellis Johnson of Evansville, Ind., Donnie Johnson of Madisonville and Donna Sorensen of Cleveland; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ella Johnson of Eldorado, Ill.
The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2007, in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with the Rev. Beecher White officiating.
Interment followed at Greasy Creek Cemetery with a white dove release ceremony concluding the service. His grandsons served as pallbearers
