- A twin.
-- MERGED NOTE ------------
According to John Funk, the Lochs went to Indiana.
JF believed Adaline to be the twin sister of Francis Asbury Jr. Stafford, born 1822, but the census indicates she was born in 1817. The age of her children indicate a marriage about 1834, which would make her 17, early for a Stafford girl to marry, but notnecessarily abnormal. Age 12 would, however, be very unusual, especially for a Stafford girl.

Adeline Stafford.10
Spouse: David Loch. David Loch and Adeline Stafford were married.10,16 David and Adeline were the parents of 7 sons and 3 daughters. Two of their sons were killed in the Civil War. Children were: Lyman Loch, Elizabeth Loch, Frank Loch, John Milton Loch, Ella Loch, Rev. William Loch, Laura Loch, Dr. David Albert Loch MD, Dr. Samuel Allen Loch MD, Cassius Marcus Loch.
Birthdates of her children are suspect, since they don't match up with
the census. I think the birthdates came from IGI or Ancestral File, probably submitted by Kieth Rose. I would like to know where he got the exact dates for this family. However, the census differs thusly:
Ransom Loch, 29 Nov 1833, census says 1834 (he was 16 in 1850); the November 1833 date would place his birth 3 months after the marriage of his parents; not totally outside the realm of possibility, but certainly unusual for such a religious family in the early 1800s.
Lyman Lansing Loch, 19 Mar 1835; census says 1837 (1850), 1836 (1860, 1880), 1835 (1870)
Francis Marion Loch, 21 Jul 1837; census says 1838 (1850, 1860)
Elizabeth Loch, 07 Feb 1841; census says 1841 (1850, 1860, 1870); 1843 (1880) and 1842 (1880); 1843 (1820)
John Milton Loch, 30 Jan 1843; census says 1843 (1850, 1860)
Sarah Ella Loch, 20 Aug 1845; census says 1845 (1850); 1846 (1860); 18
47 (1870); 1850 (1880, 1900); the 1900 actually shows her birth month as January 1850.
William Herod Loch, 15 Jun 1848; census says 1848 (1850, 1860, 1870); 1849 (1880); Jan 1849 (1900); 1850 (1910)
Laura Matilda Loch, no exact birthdate given; census says 1852 (1860); 18
51 (1870, 1880); March 1853 (1900); 1854 (1910); 1855 (1920)
David Allen Loch, 24 Jan 1855; census says 1855 (1860, 1870, 1880); Jan 1860 (1900); 1856 (1910, 1920)
Samuel Albert Loch, 24 Jan 1855; census says 1855 (1860, 1870, 1880, 1930
); Jan 1860 (1900); 1856 (1910); 1860 (1920)
Cassius M. Loch, 04 Jun 1858; census says 1857 (1860); 1858 (1870); 1859 (1880); Jun 1864 (1900, 1910); 1860 (1920); 1865 (1930) However, on Ca
ssius we can be a little more certain...he was recorded in the 1860 census with his family as being 3 years old. So he was born in 1857, 1858, or 1859, but not 1860, 1864, or 1865.
CENSUS
1850 IN, Bartholomew County, page 332/569/569: David & Adaline Lock
1860 IN, Bartholomew County, page 392/1576/1577: David & Adaline H. Loch; Lyman in next household
1870 MN, Hennepin County, Minnetonka, page 8/48/51: David & Adeline Locke
In 1880, their three youngest sons are listed in a household together, D.
A. Locke, S.A. Locke, and C.M. Locke, and they are all listed as "sons" of the head of the household. However, no one else is in the household, and David and Adaline do not appear in this census. Presumably, one or both had recently died, and the boys considered themselves as sons and not heads of household.
