His first wife was May Cook. they had no children.
He married Amy Derby January 4, 1918 Branch, Mason co, Mi.
He had a saw mill on the corner of his property on Landon Road, north of the river. He made shingles, siding, flooring and had a "bricked in" steam boiler, & steam engine. Also there were bunk houses for his many employees. There is to this day a artisan well running with the best sparkling water even today! Also he was a surveyor of wild lands, & sold property. Yet he did not know how to read or write!
When his wife Amy died he was left with 4 small children the oldest was 5 and the youngest was 2 months old. His mother in law took the baby Alice home with her to raise after the funeral. Rhea May age 2 was adopted by Charles's cousin Pearl Landon Meads to raise. Charles & Charlotte stayed with their father and became very close friends in years to come. The Amy's older girls left home & married.
