- Emory J. Stafford KILL DEVIL HILLS - Emory Junius Stafford, 80, husband of Christine Stafford, resident of Truxton Street in Kill Devil Hills, passed away at his residence Thursday evening, Sept. 22, 2011. Born in Erwin, N.C., he was the son of the late Arnold Daane and the late Fannie Greene Allen Daane. Also preceding him in death are his grandparents, Hugh Luther Allen, Eleanor Greene Allen; brother, Hugh Allen Stafford; and his daughter, Virginia McGuire. Mr. Stafford spent his childhood years in North Carolina and Cambridge, Md. He served in the U.S. Army with the Army Language School. His golf career brought him to Virginia, where he lived until moving to the Outer Banks in 2000. He was the former city editor of the Daily Banner in Cambridge, Md., and a retired PGA professional. He was the head professional at Fredericksburg Country Club, Eastern Shore Yacht and Country Club and retired from Elizabeth Manor Golf and Country Club. He had a lifelong love of sports, music and the outdoors. After retirement, he spent his time sailing, reading, gardening, coaching golf, playing golf and enjoying his friends and family. In addition to his wife, Christine, he is survived by his children, Jay Stafford and wife Suzanne of Lunenburg, Va., Cathy Hawkins and husband David of King George, Va., and Jenny Mark of Virginia Beach. Also left to cherish his memory are his six grandchildren, Brian Plum, Katie Plum, Kirstin Overton, Kyle Stafford, Cayley McGuire and Liam McGuire. The family will honor his wishes to be cremated and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the North Carolina Coastal Federation, P.O.
