Obituary:
- Don Ralph Idol, 70, of Cary, died Thursday, July 4, 2013 at his home in Cary.
Don Idol was born July 2, 1943 inForsyth County, NC to the late Ralph Curtis Idol and Helen Leah Stafford Idol.He graduated from Kernersville High School in 1961 and lettered in Football,Baseball, and Basketball. He proceeded to North Carolina State University where he graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. Mr. Idol was employed with theNC Department of Transportation with over 48 years of dedicated service. He currently held the position of State Assistant Bridge Inspection Engineer.Don’s great love was gardening, carpentry and his pets.
Mr. Idol was preceded in death by his wife, Sara Hawkins Idol and stepson, Gregory Scott Mills. He is survived by his wife, D. Jeanie Dennett; stepdaughter, Terry Mills Gilliland;daughter-in-law, Margaret Green; sister-in-law, Joanne Fousher; grandchildren,Don Alexander Mills, Carlton Seth Mills, Christopher Michael Yarborough, and Wesley Ryan Gilliland; great grandchildren, Zander Yarborough, and Nathan Yarborough; and “adopted” family, John Watson; Patti Chapman; Carla Taylor, and Peppe Delatore; as well as a host of good friends and colleagues from the NC Department of Transportation.
A memorial service will be held 2 pm Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at Saint Michael Episcopal Church, 1520 Canterbury Rd Raleigh, NC 27608. The family will receive friends immediately following theservice at the church. A small private service will be held at Raleigh Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may bemade to any animal shelter or pet rescue organization.
