  Columbus Republic 19 Oct 2001 J. Howard Stafford Hope HOPE -- J. Howard Stafford, 89, of Hope died at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at Four Seasons Health Care Center in Columbus. A farmer in Hope for 47 years, Mr. Stafford co-owned Stafford Grain Co. He served on the first Flat Rock-Hawcreek School Board and was Hawcreek Township trustee for two terms. He was a 1933 graduate of Hope High School and attended DePauw University. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Norman Funeral Home, with the Rev. Evelyn Brown officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana or Hope United Methodist Church. Born Dec. 19, 1911, in Jamestown, he was the son of Charles and Elizabeth Hutchins Stafford. He married Katherine Hoover on Aug. 25, 1938. She survives. Other survivors include children Joe Stafford of Austin, Texas, Elizabeth Vaughn of Loveland, Colo., Tom Stafford of Falls Church, Va., and James Stafford of Hope; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert and William Stafford, and sisters Martha Clouse, Charlotte Stafford and Elizabeth Gillespie.
