Katherine Hoover Stafford, 91, formerly of Hope, died Monday, March 12, 2007, at Four Seasons Retirement Center in Columbus, Ind. Mrs. Stafford married Howard Stafford of Hope on Aug. 25, 1938. Survivors include sons, Joe (Margaret) of Austin, Texas, Tom (Nancy) of Falls Church, Va., and James (Diane) of Hope, Ind.; a daughter, Elizabeth Vaughan of Loveland, Colo.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Frances Goeller of Four Seasons Retirement Center.
She was born Oct. 16, 1915, in Huntington County, the daughter of Dr. R.A. Hoover and Josephine Rambo Hoover. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, on Oct. 17, 2001, and by brothers, Charles and Thomas Hoover.
Mrs. Stafford was a graduate of Central Normal College and was a former kindergarten teacher in Hope schools. She was a member of Hope United Methodist Church and Kappa Kappa Sigma sorority. She also served as the Hope Branch librarian. She was a volunteer in the Weslaco, Texas, hospital for 10 years. Mrs. Stafford enjoyed painting in her retired years.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 21 at Four Seasons Retirement Center Chapel with the Rev. Norie Erickson officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 20 at Norman Funeral Home at Hope and at Four Seasons Chapel from 9 a.m. until service time on the day of the funeral. Burial will be at Hope Moravian Cemetery.
