Bette Jean Stafford
Bette jean, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Stafford was born at Scandia August 28, 1922, and departed this life August 18, 1941, as she neared her nineteenth birthday.
She attended rural school at Pleasant Grove and high school at Belleville and Republic, graduating at Republic in 1940.
Bette Jean possessed a quiet spirit, cheerful and gay and always had a kind word for everyone she met. She had a deep sympathy for those in trouble, and always derived satisfaction in healing the wounds of sorrow which others had suffered.
She was of artistic temperament and her radiant soul expressed its exuberance in singing. Her sweet singing often made her the messenger of happiness and hope. He love for music was evidenced in early childhood and continued as a source of happiness to her throughout her brief life. A wealth of pleasing personality was hers which made her a favorite in her large circle of friends.
Converted in Christ in meeting some time ago under Mrs. Pettijean, her Christian personality bloomed into beauty and loving kindness. Christ's spirit of love was enthroned in her heart to be revealed in the Christian character of young womanhood.
She is survived by her father, mother and four sisters, and a brother; Mrs. Carl Wakefield of Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. William Splichal of Belleville, Miss Ruby Stafford of Topeka, Mrs. Ralph Walter of Scandia, and Dale of the home; also other relatives and a host of devoted friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the United Brethren church in Republic.
