  Came to America and settled in Giles Co., Va., but came later than his brothers. Migrated with his wife from Ireland to America. He is shown in the Giles Co., Va., census of 1810, as over 45 years old. James Stafford, the last of the four brothers to come to America, brought his wife and eleven children to Giles Co. VA via the port of Philadelphia.He settled on a hilly farm there that reminded him of his Irish home. All of their children except Edward moved to Ohio in 1811. Immigrated to Giles County, Virginia in 1785, nine years after the Declaration of Independence. VA s/o John Stafford Margaret Brunt m Ireland Nancy Eaton b c1750 Ireland d/o Joseph Eaton & Elizabeth Beatty" James Stafford, Sr. and his wife Nancy were the ancestors of most of the Mitchells and Staffords who emigrated from Virginia to Ohio to Indiana. Family histories state that they immigrated from Ireland, probably around 1790. Their oldest known child ***GEORGE STAFFORD was married to Catharine Fair on 6 Oct 1797 in Montgomery Co VA. A John Stafford, the step-father of Catharine [Fair], provided surety for the marriage. This John was probably a brother of James Stafford [Sr.] and himself a recent immigrant from Ireland. A descendant of Catherine Stafford [Mitchell] b 1787 says that Catharine immigrated on the same boat from Ireland as did Catharine Fair. Below are extracts from Montgomery Co VA Marriage Records for the Stafford family. "***STAFFORD, GEORGE [marr] to Catherine Fair on 6 Oct 1797. sur. John Stafford [George's uncle], step-father of Catherine Fair. (They were the parents of Nancy Stafford and George J.
