Uncle Estill was the son of the late Clyde and Dora M. Knipp Stafford. He married my Aunt Grace on 31 Dec 1958. In 1961, Estill enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman (MP). He was initially assigned duty at Fort Knox, Kentucky and following that assignment he spent some months with a military police unit in Georgia. Estill served his country during the critical days of the Cuban Missle Crisis of Sep 1962. His overseas duty included an assignment in Paris, France. He left the Army with an Honorable Discharge in 1963 when his enlistment ended while serving at Fort Lewis, Washington. Sometime after his discharge Estill took a job in the shipping department at Ashland Works AK Steel where he worked for 35 years. After suffering many years with Alzheimer's Disease, Estill passed away at his home in Ashland on 27 Sep 2011. He was 74 years of age. Besides his wife Grace, and daughter Lisa, Estill is survived by his sister, Lena Parsons, of Ft Lauderdale, FL.
Estill was a kind, loving and gentle man. He was also a professional soldier--a military man who loved his country passionately and who served it honorably and faithfully during the dark days of the Cold War and the Vietnam War. Estill is remembered today with honor, respect and love by all his military brethren.
