Vivian Simmons Brown, 68, of Sandy Hook, passed away Monday, February 4, 2013, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va.
Vivian was born August 22, 1944, in Elliott County, the daughter of the late Taylor M. and Clara Stafford Simmons.
Vivian was a Christian and a member of Newfoundland Community Church. She was retired from the Ford Motor Co. in Michigan and St. Claire Regional Medical Center, where she was a unit secretary. Vivian served many roles in her community. She was chairwoman of the Foster Care Board in Elliott and Morgan counties and was on the planning board and very active with the Laurel Gorge Heritage Center. She was a landscape and portrait artist and also enjoyed doing ceramics.
She is survived by her loving husband, Alfred Fulton "Jack" Brown, four brothers, Ernest Simmons of Morehead, J.H. Simmons of Mansfield, OH., Clell Simmons of Sandy Hook and Leo Simmons of Raleigh, Mich., a sister, Ida Fannin of Sandy Hook, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2013, at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook, by Brother Shannon Maggard and Brother Mark Howard. Burial will be in Elliott County Memory Gardens.
