J. B. Stafford, farmer, section 30, postoffice Arnoldsville, was born in Lawrence County, Kentucky, December 7, 1839. His parents emigrated to Platte County, Missouri in 1842, where he resided up to 1866. He married Melissa Grable May 17, 1866. They have had five children: Cynthia M., Laura A., James A., John R., Charles W., all living. By his own industry he acquired 406 acres of land, besides 50 acres given him by his father-in-law. This is all under fence and in cultivation and provided with good buildings. Mr. Stafford was in the Pawpaw and State Militia, but was not out of the state. During the war he crossed the plains. He was a charter member of Rowley Lodge No. 204, A. F. & A. M.; was in the dry goods business at Arnoldsville for two years, being successful. Meeting with a good opportunity to sell out, he accepted the offer. Having disposed of his goods he turned his attention to farming.
He was living in Buchanan, Mo. in 1897.
