MONTVILLE, Ohio — Charles Ottoway Stafford, 81, of Montville, OH, formerly of Fanrock, WV, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2014.
He was born July 11, 1932, in Fanrock, WV, a son of the late Ottoway "Ottie" Stafford (1897-1989) and Margaret "Maggie" Lockhart-Stafford (1902-1970).
Charles was a 25-year Montville resident. He was a Purple Heart recipient with the Army's 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team during Korea.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by four sisters Margaret Stafford-Jackson (1919-2001), Inez Florence Stafford-Rose (1923-2005), Anna Lee Stafford (1925-1926), and Joan Fanny Stafford-Deerfield (1931-1988); three brothers Earnest Stafford (1921-1933), Harry Lester Stafford, Sr. (1928-2005), and Johnny Stafford (Deceased).
Survivors include his loving wife Judy Hilger-afford of Montville, OH; his children Melinda Stafford-Costanzo of Virginia Beach, VA, Debra Stafford of Brookpark, OH, Charles (Nancy) Stafford, Jr., of Berea, OH, Terry Stafford, Sr., and Tammy (Chris) Stafford-Conrad of Brookpark, OH, Julie Nagy and Jason (Peggy) Nagy of Nebraska; a sister Vera (Russell) Stafford-Potter of Helen; two brothers Bob Stafford of Pineville, and Jacob (JoAnn) Stafford of Oceana; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving family and friends.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2014, in the Burr Funeral Home, Chardon, OH.
