  Vera Constance Stafford-Potter, 83, of Helen, WV passed away on Sunday October 8, 2017 at Bowers Hospice House, Beckley, WV. She was born on May 17, 1934 in Caples, WV a daughter of the late Ottoway "Ott" Stafford (1897-1989) and Margaret "Maggie" Lockhart-Stafford (1902-1970). In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a son, Basil Shields (Deceased); a daughter, Teresa Lynn Ford (1974-2013); a grandson, Joseph "Joey" Shields (Deceased); a granddaughter, Crystal Shields (Deceased). She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Margaret Jane Stafford-Jackson (1919-2001), Inez Florence Stafford-Rose (1923-2005), Anna Lee Stafford (1925-1926), and Joan F. Stafford-Derifield (1931-1988); four brothers, Johnny Stafford (1910-Deceased), Ernest Stafford (1921-1933), Harry Lester Stafford (1928-2005), and Charles Ottoway Stafford (1932-2014); and her former husband, Buddy Ford Sr. (1933-2005) whom she married on August 4, 1962 in Baileysville, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1962, Page 430, Application Date: August 1, 1962). Survivors include her loving husband, Russell Junior Potter; two daughters, Marilyn Shields-Toler & Brad Toler of Clear Fork, and Lesa Ann Ford-Cook & Shawn Cook of Fayetteville; three sons, Robert Shields of Annandale, VA, Randy Shields & Carol Shields of Beckley, and Buddy Ford Jr. & Jackie Ford of Madisonville, TN. She is also survived by three stepchildren, Rick Potter & Kim Potter of Sophia, Janet Potter-Gregory & James Gregory of Glen White and Rhonda Potter-Polk & Ken Polk of Gastonia, NC; two brothers, Robert "Bobby" Stafford of Pineville and Jacob "Jake" N. Stafford & JoAnn Stafford of Oceana; thirteen grandchildren, Joey, Tara, Misti, Brandi, Jenny, Vicky, Tommy, Tyler, Logan, Adriana, Austin, Ryan and Mykal; four great grandchildren; and a host of other loving family and friends. Friends may gather with the family from 6:00 to 9:00 PM on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 in the Chapel of Stafford Family Funeral Home, Lynco, WV.
