James I. Stafford 69, of Beckley, formerly of Oceana, departed this life Sunday, January 3, 2010, in Bowers Hospice House following a long illness.
Born May 6, 1940, in Winding Gulf, he was the son of the late George "Early" Stafford, Sr. (1903-Deceased) and Gladys "Agatha" Chandler-Stafford (1905-Deceased).
He was a retired coal miner having worked for Eastern Associated Coal and Peabody for 15 years.
Mr. Stafford was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers, William "Bill" Edward Stafford (1924-1997), Donald Mason Stafford (1930-Deceased), Jack "Jackie" L. Stafford (1934-Deceased), Elmer Eugene "Gene" Stafford (1926-1998) and his twin brother John Stafford (1940-Deceased); and a sister, Naomi Stafford (Deceased).
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 44 years, Carol Stafford of Beckley; a son James Kevin Stafford and wife Rachel of Beckley; five brothers, Rev. Curtis Stafford and wife, Christina of Oceana, Charles Stafford and wife, Margaret of Pineville, Bobby Joe Stafford and wife, Kathy of Sophia, David Loverne Stafford (B. 1942) and wife Millie of Ohio and George Early Stafford Jr. (1923-Deceased) and wife, Dora of Eccles; three sisters, Natalie Stafford-Buckland, Dora Stafford-Toler (B. 1943), both of Oceana and Anna Ruth Stafford-Sizemore (1935-2012) of Williamson; the light of his life, his two grandchildren: a special granddaughter who he raised as his own, Brittany Stafford of Beckley, and grandson, Cameron James Stafford; several nieces and nephews and special caregiver, Sandra Sisk.
