ROANOKE, Va — Larry Joe Dunn of Roanoke, VA passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at his home with his wife Betty by his side.
Joe was born September 13, 1931 in Bluefield, WV. He was the son of the late Larry and Thelma Stafford Dunn. He graduated from Bluefield High School, attended Bluefield College and graduated from Virginia Tech with a Business Degree in 1954.
Joe was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Korea. He was a lifetime member of the Bluefield Elks Club, the Lions Club, and a Kentucky Colonel. Joe worked at McCue Adjustment Bureau and retired from Flat Top Insurance Agency in 1991, and continued to have an active life until his death. He enjoyed the beach and vacationing with his friends John and the late Pat Stacy in Florida and his family every year at Myrtle or Topsail Beach. Joe was an avid photographer and tennis player. He belonged to Trinity United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church and South Roanoke Methodist Church, but most recently attended Enon Baptist Church with his granddaughters.
Joe is survived by his wife, Betty S. Dunn; sister, Dorothy G. Dunn; daughter, JoAnn Dunn; son, Larry S. Dunn and wife Deb; granddaughters, Hannah N. Dunn and Tanya N. Dombrosky; grandsons, Stephen M. Gray and wife Bonnie, and Joshua L. Gray; great-grandchildren, Emma N. Gray, B. Curtis Gray, Easton C. Gray, and Rowyn Gray, due in August. Other close family include nieces and nephews, Gene Harrison and husband Ted, Anne Webb and husband Joel, Sam Miller and wife Joanne, Tom Miller and wife Missy, and Rob Miller and wife Sharon.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel in Bluefield with Pastor Glenn Giles officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday 10:00 a.m. until the service hour.
Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens where Sam Miller, Ted Harrison, Steve Gray, Josh Gray, Curt Gray, and Braedon Ballard will serve as pallbearers. Military honors will be rendered by the Mercer County Veterans Council.
