HAGUE, N.Y. - Robert M. Hoyt, age 82, of Hague, passed away on Saturday, December 10th 1994 at the Glens Falls Hospital in Glens Falls, N.Y.
He was born on April 14th 1912 in Ticonderoga, N.Y., he was the son of Sammie C. and Jessie M. (Niles) Hoyt.
Mr. Hoyt was a lifetime member of the Hague Baptist Church in Hague, N.Y. and was active for many years in church activities and committees, including serving as Sunday school superintendent, president of trustees, usher, and overseer of the annex.
Mr. Hoyt was responsible for the formation of the Hague Volunteer Fire Department and obtained its charter in 1947.
He served as Fire Chief for 32 years and remained active in the company, serving as chairman of the board of directors for several years.
He was awarded Fireman of the Year by the Warren County, N.Y. Chiefs and Officers in 1980.
In 1994, he was elected President of the Fire Company and was a Fire Policeman.
Mr. Hoyt was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.
He was a member of the American Legion of Hague, Post 1538 since 1947 and held many officers positions.
Mr. Hoyt and his wife were the proprietors of the Hague Supermarket until 1980.
Upon retirement, they moved to Florida for the winter months.
He was preeceased by his wife; Ada C. (Stafford) Hoyt, whom he married on May 31st 1941 on August 11th 1993.
He was also predeceased by one brother; Stephen H. Hoyt of Saranac Lake, N.Y. on January 21st 1987.
Arrangements by the Wilcox and Regan Funeral Home on 33 Algonkin Street in Ticonderoga, N.Y.
Burial will be in the family plot at the May Memorial Cemetery in Hague, N.Y.
