  Education: Emory And Henry College; Ohio Wesleyan As a boy and young man he was quite an accomplished horseman and always owned a good riding horse. One of his favorites was Trilby, a fine mare. DeWitt was educated in the local schools, in Emory and Henry College, and in Ohio Wesleyan University. He was self-employed in the Stafford Realty Company. He was the first realtor in Paintsville to receive a licence when the licensing program was first initiated in Kentucky. He dealt in real estate for many years with a great degree of success; he was considered expert in all phases of real estate business. DeWitt was active in civic affairs and was a charter member of the Hope Haven Children's Home Board of Directors. He was the benefactor of several of Paintsville's institutions, including the Paintsville Hospital. Notes from Louise Stafford Hardiman's compilation of "The F. M.
