  The records show that Sylvester changed his name from Sylvester Patton to Sylvester Patton Stafford and he became James, Sr. lawful son. Sylvester was killed in the Civil War in 1864. He was in Co.E, 40th Kentucky Mounted Infantry and is buried at the National Cemetery in Lebanon, KY.
