Mable Stafford Benefield, 73, died Dec. 5, 1997, at the Tarrant residence. Born in Misssouri, she was a daughter of the late Tom and Mary Gilliland and widow of Quinton Stafford. she attended the Tarrant Church of God of Prophecy. Surviving are daughters Judy Wesley and Debra McGhee, both of Birmingham, Jolie Browning, Fultondale, and Janice Ramey, Freeport, Texas; son Larry Stafford, Florence, sister Bernice Vaughn, Fenton, Michigan; brothers Wiley Gilliland and Grady Gilliland, both of Oneonta; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchldren; and friend James Benefield, Tarrant. Rev. Hubert R. Smith officiated services Dec. 8 at King's Valley Chapel, with burial at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Pallbearers were Danny Gilliland, Mike Gilliland, Terry Gilliland, Tommy Vaughn, Ralph Mason and Glenn Mason.
