DEATH CLAIMS MRS. STAFFORD
Mother of Local Attorney
Mrs. Mary Z. Stafford, 83, mother of Attorney Homer I.N. Stafford, this city and a member of one of East Liverpool's pioneer families, died at her home in 302 South Belmont Avenue, Springfield, O, at 5:30 a.m. today.
Mrs. Stafford underwent a major operation last October and although she recovered from the operation she later suffered several light strokes of paralysis.
Mrs. Stafford was the widow of the late Rev. Daniel N. Stafford who died while the couple resided in this city on October 20th, 1922. Rev. Stafford retired in 1910 after serving as pastor of many M.E. churches in the Pittsburgh, Pa., and eastern Oho conferences.
Mrs. Stafford was born in East Liverpool, a daughter of the late Mrs. and Mrs. Isaac W. Knowles, who were two of the founders of East Liverpool and who operated the first pottery in that city. She had resided in Springfield for the past 20 years, but she was well known in this city where she visited many times since residing here with her son.
Surviving are three children, H.I.N. Stafford, this city, Mrs. Ethel M Charles of Buchanan, Mich., and Mrs. Hester C. Delk, Springfield; three brothers and sisters, Edward M. Knowles of Newell, W. Va., owner of the largest pottery in the world which bears his name, Mrs. Lizzie Lee and Willis Knowles, both residing in California; four grandchildren including Eleanor and Danny Stafford this city and one great grandchild.
Although funeral arrangements have not been completed, the body will be brought to this city for burial in East Avenue cemetery beside Mrs. Stafford's husband. The local arrangements will be in charge of the William Gintz Co.
