Connotton Valley Times, Leesville, Ohio, Thursday, September 4, 1884.
It is with a sad heart that we have to record the death of father Christian Albaugh. He has been ailing for nearly two years, but on Sabbath August 24th, it became apparent that his pilgrimage here on earth was drawing nigh to a close. His disease was of the kidneys and at times his suffering was severe, which he bore with patience and Christian fortitude, until Sabbath morning August 31st, when the vital cord that held him to earth was severed, and he peacefully passed away to that land from which no traveler returns.
Mr. Albaugh was born November 3, 1813 in Salem Township, Jefferson County, Ohio, in which place his boyhood days were spent. He taught the district school near Annapolis, in his twenty-fourth year. Was married to Sarah Stafford, a school mate in his twenty-fifth year. They moved to Union Township, Tuscarawas County, Ohio, in March 1840 to an uncompleted cabin in the woods, on the farm on which he lived and died. His labor here was that of a pioneer. His farm was to clear out, and his labor was necessarily very severe. He had a family of eight children born unto him, of which three still survive him. Two died in infancy, and three lived to maturity and passed over before him.
Mr. Albaugh has been a member of the M. E. Church for forty-two years in which he has been a faithful worker. He has been leader of the class to which he belonged nearly thirty years and was always ready to perform any duty that fell to him. He was a life member of the Missionary Society of the M. E. Church. He was a kind and devoted husband, and affectionate father and honorable neighbor. He leaves a widow and hosts of friends to mourn his loss his remains were followed to their last resting place at Wesley Chaple by a large concourse of friends and neighbors may they rest in peace.
In the Tuscarawas County, Ohio death records, Vol. 2, Page 14, #311, Christian was listed as, married, and a Farmer, died August 30, 1884 at the age of 71 years in Union Township. The cause of death was listed as: Direct. It listed his birth place as Jefferson County, Ohio. (NOTE--death records stated he died August 30, but obituary stated August 31? Also death records stated his birth as November 8, 1813, and obituary November 3, 1813.
