Leon Eugene Stafford, son of Thomas Edward and Mirtie Belle Morehead Stafford, was born at Cuba on December 24, 1921, and died at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wichita on April 23, 1988, at the age of 66 years, three months and 23 days. He received his education at the Cuba Elementary School and graduated from Cuba High School in 1940. He enlisted in the United States Army at Fort Riley, Kans., in 1941, and in 1945 reenlisted in the U.S. Air Force, from which he retired in 1964, after 20 years. He had worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wichita for several years after his retirement from the service. He was united in marriage to Irene Delia Blazek on June 20, 1941, in Manhattan, and to this union five children were born. They had lived in Wichita since his retirement. He was a member of The Retired Enlisted Association 764, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4, Wichita, and The Air Force Sergeants Association, Chapter 972. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Roger Leon, one brother, Clyde; one grandson, Troy Hoover; one granddaughter, Irene Lee Stafford. He is survived by his wife of the home; three sons, Ronnie Eugene of Aurora, Colo., Robert Lee and Reginald Thomas, both of Wichita; one daughter, Rebecca Marylin Hoover of Wichita; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Doyle Edward of Lee's Summit, Mo.; two sisters, Florence Hazel Schneberger of Belleville, Oma Belle Havel of Minnetonka, Minn. Funeral services were held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Chapel in Wichita on April 23, conducted by Chaplain Maynard Peterson. Graveside services were conducted by the Disabled American Veterans of Post #4, and military graveside honors were by McConnell Air Force Honor Guard, Wichita. Interment was in Resthaven Cemetery, Wichita.
