  Belleville (KS) Telescope - 17 Aug 1950 Leslie Evert Holmes Leslie Evert Holmes, son of Andrew and Angeline Holmes, was born December 29, 1870, near Olathe, and departed this life on August 9, 1950, at Republic, at the age of 79 years, 7 months, and 11 days. In early manhood he accepted Christ as his Savior and later joined the Christian church in Chester, Neb. He was united in marriage to Miss Bessie Stafford on February 5, 1902, and to this union ten children were born. In 1901 Holmes became afflicted with arthritis and though his suffering was long, he could always see the brighter side of life. For the past three years he has been confined to his bed. Mr. Holmes lived on a farm near Byron, Neb., for nearly 20 years before moving to near Republic where he and his family have lived for more than 30 years. He was preceded in death by two children, two sisters, and three brothers. Left to mourn his death are his devoted wife; six sons, Norman of Portland, Ore., Elmer E. of Concordia, Edson of Republic, Irvin R. of Price, U., Kenneth of Byron, Neb., and Lee of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Gray of Byron, Neb., and Velma of the home; one brother, Elmer of Byron, Neb.; two sisters, Mrs. Lola Palmer of Marysville and Mrs. LeRoy Brumbaugh of Winner, S. D.; 16 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of friends and other relatives.
